Hull City into FA Cup semi-finals

Hull City book their spot in the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win over Sunderland at the KC Stadium.

Hull City have advanced into the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win over Sunderland at the KC Stadium.

Second-half goals from Curtis Davies, David Meyler and Matty Fryatt were enough for Steve Bruce's side to join Arsenal and Sheffield United in the final four of England's famous cup competition.

The first real opportunity of the match arrived after four minutes when Hull defender Maynor Figueroa flashed a cross towards the far post, but it hit the top of the crossbar before bouncing to safety.

Sunderland's first chance arrived after 20 minutes when Phil Bardsley picked out Nacho Scocco inside the box, but the Argentine could only fire his effort high and wide of the crossbar.

Fryatt came close for Hull after 25 minutes following a deep cross from Ahmed Elmohamady, but his header just drifted wide of the post.

The home side were awarded a penalty on 33 minutes when Sebastian Larsson was adjudged to have brought down Sone Aluko inside the box, but the 25-year-old was denied from the spot by Oscar Ustari.

Ustari was again called into action five minutes before the interval following a long-range strike from Aluko, but once more the Argentine won the battle.

Hull had a strong penalty shout just before the hour mark when Sunderland defender John O'Shea appeared to pull Fryatt to the ground inside the box, but the referee allowed play to continue.

The home side had the lead less than 10 minutes later, however, when skipper Davies converted with a powerful header for his fourth goal of the season.

Minutes later, Hull had their second as Meyler was allowed to drive into the Sunderland box before finishing into the bottom corner.

A mistake from Sunderland's Lee Cattermole presented Hull with their third as the midfielder's back-pass was collected by Fryatt, who converted from close range.

The Tigers had opportunities to add to the scoring in the latter stages, but it remained at 3-0 as Bruce led his side to Wembley.
