Huddersfield Town boss Chris Powell: 'Diego Poyet will make us better'

Huddersfield Town boss Chris Powell expects West Ham United loanee to have a big impact on the club during the month that he is there.

Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell has expressed his confidence in recent teenage loan signing Diego Poyet to have a telling effect during his time with the Terriers.

Poyet, 19, who is the son of Sunderland boss Gus Poyet, joined the Championship side from West Ham United on Friday until next month and knows Powell from previous club Charlton Athletic.

The midfielder was eligible to play for Huddersfield on Saturday at Fulham, but didn't make it off the bench in the 3-1 defeat at Craven Cottage.

"We have time to get him used to being with us over the international break, used to training and the area and hopefully we will see a player who will add quality to us, who is very composed on the ball," Powell told London24. "He will make us a better team for sure.

"I gave him his debut in the cup at the turn of the year, and within six months he was Player of the Year at Charlton and then got his move to West Ham.

"There is a quality player there and it is really good for us that West Ham have allowed him to come to us for an initial 28 days, and we will see from there."

Defeat at Fulham was Huddersfield's second loss in a row after a run of seven unbeaten in the Championship. They lie 16th in the table after 17 games of the season.
