Lee Clark "perplexed" at Huddersfield axe

Lee Clark says that he is disappointed and surprised by Huddersfield Town's decision to part company with him.

Lee Clark has claimed that he is "disappointed and shocked" at being sacked from Huddersfield Town.

The League One club announced today that they no longer needed the services of the 39-year-old manager, despite a successful run in the Terriers' current campaign.

"I am very perplexed as to why I was dismissed as the manager of Huddersfield Town," Clark said in a statement via the League Manager's Association. "Needless to say I am extremely disappointed and shocked considering that, with just 16 games left, we are in a such great position to compete for automatic promotion.

"I am massively proud of my record with Huddersfield and I enjoyed a fantastic relationship with the players, coaching staff, supporters and indeed everybody at the club. I now wish them all the very best for the future and hope they will ultimately achieve promotion this season."

Reports have claimed that the former Newcastle United midfielder is considering launching a case for unfair dismissal against Huddersfield. However, the coach has not stated that he will go forward with this action.

The League One side are just one spot behind automatic promotion to the Championship.
