Terry Butcher sacked by Hibernian

Hibernian confirm the sacking of manager Terry Butcher.

Terry Butcher has been sacked as manager of Hibernian following a seven-month spell in charge of the club.

The 55-year-old joined Hibs from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in November 2013, but a poor run of results saw the team relegated to the Scottish Championship.

Following a board meeting at Easter Road, it was unanimously agreed that Butcher should be relieved of his duties.

"I have to say that we all regret that this decision had to be made, but during conversation it became clear that a different approach was needed," chief executive Leeann Dempster told the club's official website.

"Sadly, for a variety of reasons and perhaps including unfortunate timing, it hasn't worked out for Terry here. That is disappointing for all concerned. I am genuinely saddened that we have had to take this tough decision.

"Now we need to move forward and act to bring in a new manager with the aim of getting us promoted back to where Hibernian belongs, in the top league of Scottish football, from a uniquely competitive Championship."

Hibernian's relegation from the Scottish Premiership was confirmed last month when they were beaten over two legs in a playoff by Hamilton Academical.
