Joachim Low: 'Germany can make history'

Germany manager Joachim Low is keen to make history and become the first European nation to win the World Cup on South American soil when they take on Argentina tomorrow.

Germany manager Joachim Low has challenged his side to make history in tomorrow's World Cup final against Argentina.

Die Mannschaft will go into the game at the Maracana full of confidence following their 7-1 trouncing of hosts Brazil in the last four as they look to pick up their fourth World Cup title.

Should they manage that then they would become the first European nation to have won the competition on South American soil, and Low admits that he was keen to achieve that feat.

"In the past we never had this, so we know we can write history," Low told reporters.

"Latin Americans, on this continent, have dominated all the time. So why can we not be the first? This could be considered an additional joy for us if we were to win as Europeans on Latin American soil."

Germany have not won the World Cup since 1990, when they beat Argentina in the final.
