Philipp Lahm: 'Experience can help Germany reach finish line'

Philipp Lahm hopes that Germany's collective experience on the big stage can see them pip Argentina to World Cup glory on Sunday.

Philipp Lahm has called on his Germany teammates to use their experience of winning trophies at club level to help their nation seal World Cup glory on Sunday.

Joachim Low's side face Argentina at the Maracana this weekend knowing that victory would see Die Mannschaft end a 24-year barren spell at the finals.

No fewer than eight of Low's first XI in Tuesday's 7-1 thrashing of Brazil had lifted a trophy for their respective club at the end of last season.

Consequently, Lahm hopes that same winning mentality will translate well to the international stage in Rio on Sunday.

"A lot of our players have experience of playing in big finals with big clubs," he told reporters. "That's definitely an advantage for us.

"You never know how far you will go, but we've prepared well, worked as a team and now we're one step away. I'm looking forward to the final. We want simply to become world champion."

The showpiece kicks off at 8pm.
