Tom Cairney commits to Fulham with new five-year contract

Tom Cairney puts pen to paper on a new five-year contract with Fulham following the club's promotion to the Premier League.

Fulham have confirmed that midfielder Tom Cairney has signed a new contract that will run through until the summer of 2023.

The 27-year-old skippered the Cottagers to a third-placed finish in the Championship last season, before getting them over the line with the only goal against Aston Villa in the playoff final.

Cairney arrived at Craven Cottage from Blackburn Rovers three years ago and has gone on to make 130 appearances for the club, scoring 27 goals in that time.

Fulham feared losing the Scotland international last summer when a number of suitors emerged but, on the back of their promotion to the Premier League, Cairney has now agreed to stay on in West London for the long term.

"I'm obviously delighted to extend my contract, it's all I've wanted to do, and I'm just buzzing to get the season underway," he told Fulham's official website. "Premier League football is back at the Cottage, and it's great to be part of the squad that got us there again."

Vice-chairman Tony Khan added: "Based on our achievements in Tom's time as our skipper, and his contributions to our great success last season, it's an honour and a pleasure to announce that Tom will remain with us at Craven Cottage for what will be a bright future."

Fulham are also said to be hopeful of reaching an agreement with in-demand youngster Ryan Sessegnon in the coming weeks.
