Olivier Giroud disappointed with France display against England

France striker Olivier Giroud states that the team were disappointing in their friendly defeat to England on Tuesday, despite the circumstances surrounding the match.

France striker Olivier Giroud has admitted that the team put in a disappointing display in their friendly defeat to England on Tuesday, despite the circumstances surrounding the match.

Les Bleus lost 2-0 at Wembley on a night when players, coaches and supporters paid their respects to the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris, which included both sets of fans signing the French national anthem prior to kickoff.

Didier Deschamps's side were not at their best as goals from Dele Alli and Wayne Rooney gave England the win, and Giroud has said that it was a difficult evening for the French players.

"We faced an efficient English side. We struggled against them. It was not really 'us' tonight," FourFourTwo quotes the Arsenal man as saying.

"As soon as we decide to play the game, we are all professional football players and even if it is everything but easy, we must deliver on the pitch.

"As soon as the referee whistled, we should have straight away got into the game. We couldn't do it. We wanted to play that game for all these people who stayed in France. We wanted to pay tribute to the victims' families."

The win was England's first over France since 1997.
