Wayne Rooney to wear number 10 for Everton

Everton confirm that England international Wayne Rooney will wear the number 10 shirt for the Toffees next season.

Everton have confirmed that Wayne Rooney will wear the number 10 shirt for the Toffees next season.

Rooney, 31, completed an emotional return to Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon, with the England international signing a two-year contract with the club that he left for Manchester United in 2004.

Rooney wore '10' during the majority of his United career, and he will continue with that number at Everton as Romelu Lukaku, who had previously worn that shirt, prepares to move in the opposite direction.

Rooney burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old with Everton in 2002, making 77 appearances and scoring 17 goals for the Merseyside club before joining the Red Devils, where he scored 253 goals in 559 appearances.
