Everton have reportedly held talks with Manuel Pellegrini about the former Manchester City manager succeeding Roberto Martinez.
The Merseyside outfit are in the hunt for a new boss after they opted to sack Martinez in the week leading up to the final day of the Premier League season.
The Toffees are believed to be considering a handful of candidates, including Sevilla boss Unai Emery, and according to the Daily Mail, Pellegrini recently met with Everton's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri.
Pellegrini, who is out of work after leaving Man City earlier this month following a three-year spell, hinted last week that he would prefer to stay in the Premier League.
Everton, who finished 11th this season, are expected to meet a handful of other candidates in the coming weeks.
In his three years at City, Pellegrini guided the team to the league title and two League Cups.
