James McCarthy: 'Everton will not get carried away by Manchester United win'

Everton midfielder James McCarthy admits that this has been a "frustrating campaign" for fans, but one which can end on a high after their 3-0 win over Manchester United.

James McCarthy believes that Everton's "magnificent" 3-0 victory over Manchester United this afternoon can help the club end their season on a high.

The Toffees have endured a disappointing campaign overall, with Europa League commitments seemingly having a negative effect on their Premier League form.

Results have improved drastically in recent weeks, though, coinciding with their European exit, and Everton have now won five of their last six games to climb into the top half of the table.

"It's been a frustrating campaign, now we want to finish the season on a high," McCarthy, who scored his side's opening goal in the comfortable victory, told Sky Sports News.

"We won't get too carried away. It's a big win. We knew Man United would come at us and we hurt them on the break a couple of times. We were magnificent all over the pitch.

"These are the big games you look forward to. I enjoyed myself today. We know we've been under par this season, the last 10 games or so we've shown we're getting back to ourselves."

Next up for 10th-placed Everton is a trip to relegation-threatened Aston Villa.
