Roberto Martinez: 'Kevin Mirallas gives us another striking option'

Roberto Martinez says that Kevin Mirallas adds to Everton's striking options.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has said that the versatility of Kevin Mirallas provides him with another option up front.

The 25-year-old, who naturally plays on the wing, switched from the flank as the Toffees edged towards victory against Chelsea on Saturday.

Martinez explained that he withdrew Nikica Jelavic because he felt that the Belgian international's pace would cause problems for Jose Mourinho's men.

"Kevin Mirallas is now in a stage of his career where he can play in many positions and understand a different way of playing," Martinez told Evertontv.

"He played in that position at his previous club Olympiacos, so we are all very aware of that option.

"At that time [against Chelsea] we were defending really well and were comfortable, but it is important to have pace and mobility up front. Kevin always gave us that outlet and that real threat going forward."

Mirallas scored six Premier League goals last season.
