Roberto Martinez: 'Everton can finish top half'

Roberto Martinez says that Everton can finish in the top half of the Premier League following their 1-0 victory over Southampton.

Roberto Martinez has said that Everton can finish in the top half of the table following their 1-0 Premier League victory over Southampton.

Phil Jagielka scored the only goal of the game and believes that Everton have momentum building with seven league games remaining.

"As disappointed as we were in the Europa League, it allows us to look back, see how we've done and use that experience in the league," Martinez told Sky Sports News.

"We always had the focus to get as many points as we could and in games like this today, when margins are small against good teams, the European experience helps you.

"We have an exciting period ahead of us now and the top half is achievable. All we can control is our own points tally; we have 37 points now and we want to increase that to the maximum and keep our standards high."

The result saw Everton rise to 11th in the Premier League table, five points behind 10th-placed West Ham United.
