Phil Jagielka confident of beating "naive" Manchester City

Everton captain Phil Jagielka insists that his side are capable of continuing Manchester City's "naive" start to the season at the Etihad Stadium today.

Everton captain Phil Jagielka has insisted that his side will visit Manchester City this afternoon full of confidence, describing Manuel Pellegrini's men as "naive".

The Toffees are the last side to hold an unbeaten record in the Premier League, with manager Roberto Martinez continuing a fine start to life at Goodison Park by beating Newcastle United 3-2 on Monday night.

He told The Mirror: "City have either been amazing or a little bit naive, so we're still seeing with them. But we have to be confident we can go there and win.

"The way the league is panning out, no-one seems to be taking charge or has been invincible, and we have given ourselves a good enough start that we can go there and be positive and see where it takes us.

"Nobody is right on it at the moment, so we'll have a good go and hopefully this isn't just a flash in the pan and we can keep our unbeaten record going."

Under previous boss David Moyes, the Toffees won six of their last eight meetings against City.
