Arouna Kone's Everton contract extended until June 2017

Everton striker Arouna Kone's appearance in Sunday's Premier League game against Sunderland triggers an appearance-based one-year extension to his contract.

Arouna Kone's Everton deal has been extended by another 12 months, with the striker now contracted to stay at Goodison Park until June 2017.

Toffees manager Roberto Martinez revealed the news after the Ivorian smashed in a hat-trick in his side's 6-2 rout of Sunderland on Sunday.

The striker's treble took his goalscoring tally for the season to five, while his role in the game triggered his contract's appearance-based one-year extension.

Kone joined Everton from Wigan Athletic in July 2013 for a fee of £5m and has played 34 times for the club in all competitions.
