Everton's Leighton Baines to undergo ankle surgery?

Everton left-back Leighton Baines could reportedly be required to undergo ankle surgery, which will rule him out of England's fixtures next month.

Everton left-back Leighton Baines may reportedly need to undergo an operation on his ankle, which is expected to keep him on the treatment table until the end of July.

On Sunday, manager Roberto Martinez suggested that the 30-year-old could miss the rest of the season due to the injury.

Baines's long-running problem was troubled during the Merseyside outfit's 2-0 defeat to Sunderland last weekend.

According to The Express, reconstructive surgery is an option for Baines, who is due to meet a specialist this week to learn the extent of the injury.

If an operation is required, Baines will miss England's friendly with the Republic of Ireland and the Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia in June.

Everton's final two games of the season are against West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.
