Seamus Coleman: 'Trophy drought driving Everton's FA Cup run'

Seamus Coleman reveals that Everton are keen to end their 19-year trophy drought by lifting the FA Cup this season, which could be a "stepping stone" to bigger things.

Seamus Coleman has revealed that he and his Everton teammates are determined to end the club's trophy drought by lifting the FA Cup this season.

The Toffees moved into the quarter-finals of the competition courtesy of their 3-1 victory over Swansea City at Goodison Park on Sunday.

They will travel to Arsenal in the next round and while Coleman has acknowledged that their path to the semi-finals is a tough one, he is hopeful of glistening his Goodison Park career with some silverware, but hinted that an FA Cup win would only be the start of Everton's rise under Roberto Martinez.

"We want to go as far as we can in the Cup," Coleman told reporters. "It is going to be a difficult draw but you have to beat them all at some stage if you want to win and there are some good teams still in it.

"I've been here five years now and I've not won anything so it would be nice to win and there are other lads who have been here longer who want to win it as well.

"It would lift the club as a whole. Winning an FA Cup is massive for any club and it would be as big for us and a big stepping stone for other things."

Everton last won a major trophy when they beat Manchester United to win the 1995 FA Cup.
