Fraser Forster "dreams" of England World Cup call

Fraser Forster is desperate to go to the World Cup with England and is hoping that his Champions League heroics for Celtic will help him earn a place in the 23-man squad.

Fraser Forster is hoping that his Champions League heroics for Celtic will help him earn the England World Cup call that he admits every player dreams of getting.

The 26-year-old's impressive performances have helped his club claim some memorable European scalps in recent seasons and caught the eye of Roy Hodgson, who handed him an international debut in 2013.

With Manchester City's Joe Hart the undisputed Three Lions number one, Forster is competing with the likes of John Ruddy, Ben Foster and Jack Butland for the remaining goalkeeping spots in England's squad for the tournament in Brazil this summer, and is desperate to be included.

"We have had some great nights and everyone sees what the nights are like and on a personal note that has helped me get into the England squad, without those I don't think I would have got in," he told Sky Sports News.

"Playing for Celtic is a bit like playing international football, because you have got long periods of inactivity at times, then you might have a save to make but you have to be switched on and it maybe about making just one save - so there are similarities and I think that benefits me.

"Obviously it plays on your mind, it would be fantastic to go, a dream to go but obviously it is not my decision and all you can do is play as well as you can and hopefully at the end of the season you might get that text and call letting you know you're part of the squad, it is what every English player dreams of and that would be an honour for me to be part of. We have worked so hard over last two years to qualify and to be part of World Cup in Brazil is a once in a lifetime opportunity."

Forster, whose only England appearance to date came in the 2-0 defeat to Chile at Wembley, set an Scottish Premiership record of 13 consecutive clean sheets earlier this season.
