England captain Harry Kane will be looking to break a Wembley goalscoring record when he leads his country against Ukraine this evening.

Harry Kane will attempt to break a Wembley goalscoring record when England face Ukraine in this evening's Euro 2024 qualifier.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker made history on Thursday when he became England's all-time record goalscorer in his country's 2-1 win over Italy.

Declan Rice opened the scoring before a Giovanni Di Lorenzo handball presented Kane with the chance to surpass Wayne Rooney's record.

From the resulting spot kick, Kane calmly sent Gianluigi Donnarumma the wrong way to score a historic 54th international goal - one more than any other England player in history.

Mateo Retegui pulled a goal back for Italy in the second half, before Luke Shaw was given his marching orders with 10 minutes remaining, but England held firm to return home from Naples with three points.

Kane will now have the chance to make another piece of history later today as he bids to break a Wembley goalscoring record.

The 29-year-old has scored 30 goals in an England shirt at Wembley, including four in his previous five international appearances at the famous stadium.

Kane's record is only bettered by Gary Lineker and Bobby Charlton, who have scored 22 and 23 goals respectively for England at the old Wembley.

The current England captain will attempt to match and surpass Lineker and Charlton's tallies this evening, and his qualifying record suggests that he has every chance of doing so.

Impressively, the forward has racked up 33 goals across 28 appearances in qualifying games for major tournaments.

England have shipped seven goals in their last two home matches after a 4-0 defeat to Hungary was followed by a 3-3 with Germany.

The Three Lions are now at risk of conceding three or more goals in three straight home matches for the first time in history.

However, their positive home record against Ukraine will certainly give them a reason to be confident ahead of their Wembley meeting.

England have won three of their four home games against Ukraine, while their most recent meeting in September 2012 finished in a 1-1 draw.

The hosts can also draw inspiration from the fact that they have won their last 10 home games in European Championship qualifying.
