Roy Hodgson has countered suggestions that England's friendly against Scotland on Tuesday may be taken lightly.

The Three Lions travel North of the border on the back of four successive Euro 2016 qualifying wins, but when asked whether the friendly in Glasgow carries less importance than competitive games, Hodgson reacted dismissively.

He told The Independent: "I preach to the players that every time you play for England it is important.

"Whether it is San Marino, Germany, Brazil, or Scotland away. I don't want them saying, 'This is the one that counts'.

"I want them to say, 'Listen, if I get a chance to put this shirt on and the coaching staff tell me what to do, I have to go out there and do it'."

The last time the two sides met was in August last year, when Rickie Lambert scored the winner with his first touch on his international debut in a 3-2 win for England at Wembley.
