West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster suggests that former England boss Fabio Capello's 'strictness' caused him to retire from international football.

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster has suggested that he initially retired from international duty due to the 'seriousness' of former England manager Fabio Capello.

The 29-year-old, who recently decided to make himself available for the Three Lions under new boss Roy Hodgson, has revealed that injuries and Capello's regime played a part in his decision to retire in 2011.

"The main thing at the time when I retired was a lot of niggling injuries," the Daily Mail quotes Foster as saying. "But at the time it was very, very serious with Fabio Capello, we weren't allowed to go out of the hotel and we weren't allowed visitors.

"I was playing with a lot of niggles and my kids were born around that time as well, so they were about one and two so it was hard for me to go away for a week or ten days and not see my kids or family."

Foster, who has earned five England caps, could be called into the England squad for their World Cup qualifiers over Montenegro and San Marino later this month.
