The Football Association announces its intention to appeal the fine handed to them by FIFA for their tribute to Armistice Day last month.

The Football Association has announced that it has contacted FIFA in relation to the fine handed to them for their tribute to Armistice Day last month.

Earlier on Monday, FIFA revealed that it had fined England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland after poppies were on display in the recent World Cup qualifiers featuring the nations.

However, the FA has wasted little time in indicating that it does not accept the punishment and that it plans to appeal the decision.

On its official Twitter account, the body said: "We note the decision by the FIFA disciplinary committee, which we intend to appeal. As a first step, we have written to FIFA requesting grounds for the decision."

In a lengthy statement, FIFA had earlier said that the punishment was in relation to "the display by the host association, the English team and spectators of a political symbol and several cases of spectator misconduct".
