Sven-Goran Eriksson: 'Tough choice for Wilfried Zaha'

Eriksson: 'Tough choice for Zaha'

Sven-Goran Eriksson says that Wilfried Zaha should commit his international future to the country for which he is likely to play more.

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson believes that Wilfried Zaha faces a tough decision on whether to commit his international future to the Three Lions or Ivory Coast.

The Crystal Palace starlet looks likely to make his England debut against Sweden in Stockholm on Wednesday but could still represent the country of his birth due to FIFA regulations.

Due to the friendly with Sweden not being deemed a competitive match, Zaha could still choose to play for the Ivorians after the match. Eriksson, who has managed both countries, thinks that the 20-year-old has a tough decision on his hands.

"England is a big nation but don't forget that Ivory Coast is a very big team at the moment," Eriksson told talkSPORT. "Either of them could be in the final in Brazil at the next World Cup. He has to make a decision with his brain and his heart.

"It might come down to the chances he gets to play. That's how players think about this sort of decision. He needs to work out if he's feeling more English or Ivorian.

"I'm quite sure he will be happy if Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure and all these big stars start to phone him. If he's only thinking about footballing matters it's not an easy choice to make."

Zaha has represented England at both Under-19 and Under-21 level.
