Theo Walcott hopes to be given more time on the field for England after his decisive substitute appearance in the 3-2 win over Sweden.

England winger Theo Walcott is hoping that his superb cameo performance in the 3-2 win over Sweden will lead to him being given more playing time for his country.

The 23-year-old entered the action as a 61st-minute substitute in place of James Milner, with the Three Lions trailing 2-1 in the crucial Euro 2012 clash.

Walcott began the recovery with a swerving long-range strike and then set up Danny Welbeck for the winner 12 minutes from the end.

"It was my first appearance in such a high-profile arena," said Walcott. "I've been waiting a while. I hope there are more chances for me.

"It is always nice to come off the bench and show what you can do. I have been training hard. It is not about the starting lineup, it is a team thing.

"You need to be sharp on the pitch and it is tough at this level. It means a lot for the fans who have travelled out here and to make my appearance in such a high profile area means so much to me."

Walcott has been capped 27 times at senior international level.
