Alan Pardew: 'Crystal Palace need two strikers'

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew is hopeful of bringing in two new strikers before the end of the transfer window, and expects plenty more movement in the coming weeks.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has reiterated his need for attacking reinforcements, outlining his desire to bring in two new strikers before the end of the current transfer window.

The Eagles have been linked with the likes of Christian Benteke and Saido Berahino this summer, but so far no new striker has arrived at the club and they drew a blank in their Premier League opener on Saturday, losing 1-0 at home to West Bromwich Albion.

Palace are expected to lose another attacking threat in the form of Everton-bound Yannick Bolasie, but Pardew insists that there is no great rush to bring in a new frontman before next weekend.

"We need two strikers. Whether [Bolasie] is one of them we'll have to wait and see. Any striker that is available - and I believe [Berahino] isn't at the moment - is of interest to us, but our net is much wider than the Premier League," he told reporters.

"I don't think it's essential [to sign a striker before next week's fixture at Tottenham[, because we might have to be patient with the window, and sometimes like dominoes, one falls elsewhere and it affects somebody else. There's a lot of movement to happen in the Premier League: definitely from the noises I'm hearing.

"Steve [Parish, Palace's chairman] couldn't try any harder. We have got some options that we could take, but we have to be patient as well; there's no point jumping into options we don't think are 100% for us. Our communication's spot on - couldn't be better than it is - but it'd be good to get one over the line obviously."

Following their opening-day defeat, Palace have now won just two of their last 22 Premier League outings.
