Nineteen-year-old Chelsea winger Diego Moreira joins Ligue 1 side Lyon on loan for the 2023-24 season.

Chelsea attacker Diego Moreira has been loaned out to Lyon for the 2023-24 campaign.

The 19-year-old ended a three-year spell with Benfica to join Chelsea on a long-term contract earlier this summer, penning a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2028.

After making three Premier League 2 appearances for the Under-21s, Moreira earned his first senior start for Chelsea during their EFL Cup second-round tie with League Two side AFC Wimbledon in midweek.

However, Moreira struggled to make his mark at Stamford Bridge and was taken off at half time by Mauricio Pochettino, whose side came from a goal down to record a 2-1 win.

With the Blues adding Cole Palmer to their attacking ranks on deadline day, Portugal Under-21 international Moreira - who was also a part of Chelsea's pre-season tour of the USA - will continue his development in France in the coming months.

The teenager arrives at the Groupama Stadium following the departure of Bradley Barcola, whom Lyon sold to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in a £42.9m deal on Thursday.
