Conor Gallagher 'to leave Chelsea this summer'

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is reportedly expected to leave the club this summer.

The Blues are set to offload a number of players in the summer window as Mauricio Pochettino looks to trim his bloated squad.

Mateo Kovacic recently admitted that he is likely to leave amid speculation linking him with a move to Manchester City.

N'Golo Kante is closing in on a transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, while AC Milan are showing an interest in Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

There is also uncertainty surrounding the future of Mason Mount, who is out of contract in 2024 and has been heavily linked with Manchester United.

The midfield departures may not stop there, though, with Gallagher believed to be heading towards the exit door.

According to football.london, there is an expectation that the 23-year-old will leave the club ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

The report claims that Newcastle United and West Ham United are among the clubs that are showing an interest in the England international.

The Magpies can offer Gallagher Champions League football, while West Ham will compete in the Europa League after winning the Europa Conference League on Wednesday.

With two years left to run on Gallagher's contract, Chelsea have set a £50m asking price for the academy graduate.

Chelsea's valuation could prove to be a stumbling block for Newcastle, who only prepared to pay less than half of that figure.

Gallagher had the opportunity to depart in the January transfer window when Everton made a bid in excess of £40m.

The Englishman was reluctant to complete the move to Goodison Park, ensuring that he saw out the remainder of the season in West London.

Gallagher, who has also been linked with Liverpool, made 45 appearances in the 2022-23 campaign, registering three goals and one assist.
