Chelsea 'reopen Dominic Solanke talks'

Chelsea reportedly reopen contract negotiations with Dominic Solanke after initial talks last season broke down over the youngster's wage demands.

Chelsea have reportedly reopened talks with Dominic Solanke over a new contract at the club.

Discussions between the two parties stalled last season when the 18-year-old demanded £50,000-a-week wages and guarantees of first-team football.

Chelsea were unwilling to give in to those demands, but The Telegraph claims that they have now re-entered negotiations as Solanke goes into the final year of his contract.

The Blues have a policy of only loaning players out if they have committed their futures to the club, meaning that contract discussions may need to be finalised before next Wednesday's transfer deadline if Solanke is to play first-team football this season.

Solanke was handed a rare place in the matchday squad for the EFL Cup victory over Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night, although he remains behind the likes of Diego Costa, Michy Batshuayi and Loic Remy in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

It remains unclear whether Solanke and his stepfather, who has been handling the negotiations, are willing to lower their demands.
