Chelsea captain John Terry will decide whether to appeal his four-match suspension for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand by 6pm today.

Chelsea captain John Terry is due to make a decision on whether to appeal his four-match ban issued by the Football Association by 6pm today.

The 31-year-old was handed a two-week period to respond to the suspension following the publication of the independent regulatory commission's reasons behind the centre-back's punishment.

Reports have claimed that Terry will not fight the ban, which was dealt after the panel found the defender guilty of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers centre-back Anton Ferdinand during a West London derby last year.

The ban will come into force immediately if Terry accepts the suspension, which means that the defender will be unavailable for Chelsea's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, as well as a double header against Manchester United in the league and League Cup and an away trip to Swansea City.

The former England international was cleared of a racially-aggravated public order offence by Westminster magistrates in July.
