Jose Mourinho: 'Seven points is nothing'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho dismisses suggestions that his side are closing in on the title, claiming that the seven-point gap to Man City is "nothing".

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has dismissed suggestions that his team are close to securing the Premier League crown.

The Blues extended the gap at the top to seven points by beating Aston Villa 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

City could only manage a 1-1 draw against Hull City, with James Milner scoring a last-minute free kick to salvage them a point.

The Portuguese boss has played down his side's advantage, claiming that it would be a fantastic opportunity in other countriess but the seven-point difference is "nothing" in the Premier League.

"Every game is difficult, anything could happen. Seven points means seven points but you have 14 matches to go. You are speaking about 42 points to play for, we have a lead of seven. I think it's nothing," Mourinho told reporters.

"In another country I would say it's fantastic, in this country I say it's nothing.

"When you are top of the league you don't need the other teams to lose points. If they lose, good, but we have to focus on ourselves. if we win the next game we have a 7 point lead with 13 matches to go."

Chelsea host Everton in the league on Wednesday, while Man City visit Stoke City on the same night.
