Diego Costa handed three-match ban

Chelsea's Diego Costa is banned for three games after being found guilty of violent conduct by the Football Association.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been suspended for three games after being found guilty of violent conduct by the Football Association.

Costa was charged following Chelsea's fiesty 2-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday, during which the Spanish international was involved in incidents with Arsenal defenders Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista.

Although Arsenal won their appeal against Gabriel's red card earlier on Tuesday, the FA have taken action against Costa for his conduct which was not spotted on the pitch by referee Mike Dean.

An FA statement read: "An FA charge against Diego Costa for violent conduct not seen by the match officials but caught on video has been found proven following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

"The Chelsea forward will, therefore, serve the standard penalty of a three-match suspension with immediate effect. The charge, which the player denied, was in relation to an incident involving Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny in the 43rd minute of the game on Saturday."

The 26-year-old will now miss Chelsea's next three matches after the charge was upheld at an independent hearing, meaning that he will be absent for Wednesday night's League Cup third round tie against Walsall as well as Premier League clashes with Newcastle United and Southampton.
