Chelsea will be looking to avoid equalling a club-record streak when they square off against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

Chelsea will be looking to avoid equalling a club-record streak when they square off against Bournemouth in the Premier League.

In the 12 months since the change of ownership, the Blues have endured their worst season in recent memory, the club currently sitting in 12th position in the Premier League standings.

As a result, Chelsea will not participate in Europe next season, leaving the next head coach - likely to be Mauricio Pochettino - with much work ahead to restore the club to its former glories.

However, in the short term, caretaker manager Frank Lampard is tasked with ensuring that unlikely relegation does not remain a possibility and that even more embarrassment is not suffered during the closing weeks of the season.

The West Londoners have lost each of their six matches under the former midfielder, extending their winless streak to eight games in all competitions.

Nevertheless, the focus will remain on the stint under club legend Lampard, and he is on the brink of equalling an unwanted club record.

Losing to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon would make it the third time in Chelsea's history where they have lost seven times in a row, the first occasion since 1960-61.

Furthermore, Lampard is at risk of enduring the worst losing run by an English manager since 1930 having already lost his last 10 matches in all competitions, the other four coming with Everton.

The all-time record held by Herbert Bamlett stands at 14 games, something which may become a realistic possibility with Chelsea closing the season with games against Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Lampard is also making the trip to the Vitality Stadium for the third time this season, his Everton side losing 4-1 and 3-0 in the EFL Cup and Premier League respectively in the same November week earlier in the campaign.

On a positive note for Chelsea, they have the opportunity to record a double over Bournemouth for just the second time, the first occasion coming in 2016-17.
