Chelsea interim boss Rafael Benitez admits that Fernando Torres is in need of a rest following a busy festive period.

Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez has admitted that Fernando Torres needs some rest.

The striker has played 33 games in all competitions for the Blues this season, scoring 14 goals in that time.

"Fernando is one of the players who needs to rest," Benitez told reporters. "Two or three players have been playing too many games in the last weeks and months.

"Without talking about names, if you have another striker you can play with two strikers if you need to.

"Or if you want to rest a striker then you can do that and at the moment we are a bit short."

Chelsea are expected to sign Newcastle United forward Demba Ba before the end of the January transfer window.
