Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez insists that he is proud of his spell at the club following Sunday's win over Everton on the last day of the Premier League season.

Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez has insisted that he is proud of his time at the club following Sunday's win over Everton on the final day of the Premier League season.

The Spaniard joined the Blues in November amid disapproval from some fans but has since guided the team to Europa League glory and Champions League qualification.

He is now due to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer having signed off with a 2-1 victory over Everton.

"I am really proud because we have a team in transition and you can see young players, playing 69 games and doing well to the last game," BBC Sport quotes Benitez as saying. "I'm pleased for them and really proud.

"I received a lot of messages so I was quite happy with the response of a lot of the fans. You can't change the opinion of everyone but a lot of people realise what we've tried to do.

"You prefer people supporting the team and you but if it's not the case you just try to do your job as well as you can."

Chelsea will now travel to the USA to face Manchester City in two friendlies before the end of the month.
