Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson will not meet up with the Senegal squad for this month's international break after undergoing surgery on a minor wrist injury.

Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has undergone surgery to rectify a minor wrist injury.

Jackson has been playing on with the issue, wearing a splint to provide protection, and the striker has scored in both games since picking up the issue before their EFL Cup win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Senegalese forward went on to score the only goal in their win over the Seagulls, and then found the net off the bench in Chelsea's 4-1 win at Burnley on Saturday.

With Senegal not in competitive action this week though, playing just a solitary friendly against Cameroon, Jackson has withdrawn from the squad to focus on his recovery.

That should mean that Jackson will be available to face Arsenal when club football returns in two weeks' time.

Jackson will hope to regain his place in the starting XI after Armando Broja stepped in to face Fulham when the 22-year-old was suspended.

Mauricio Pochettino then opted to stick with the Albanian after Chelsea won 2-0 at Craven Cottage, with Jackson taking his place on the bench.

However, after a first half where Chelsea struggled at Turf Moor, Jackson was introduced at the interval, and the visitors were soon 3-1 up, before the new signing wrapped up the win with a fine solo effort.

By missing the international break, Jackson will be in contention to start in their derby with Arsenal on the first Saturday back.

This comes on the same week that Christopher Nkunku has revealed that he is making positive strides in his return from injury.

The fellow new signing suffered a knee injury in pre-season with the diagnosis stating that he would not return until after November's international break.

That has left much of the workload on Jackson's shoulders, with Broja also only recently returning from a serious knee injury of his own.

However, the French attacker has posted clips online of him on the road to recovery, showing that his rehabilitation is going well.

Chelsea have undoubtedly missed the quality of Nkunku, especially when they went three games without scoring in September.

Entering the October international break on the back of three straight wins has raised spirits at Stamford Bridge, though, and Jackson getting among the goals will only bolster his confidence ahead of Nkunku's return.
