Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has insisted that Jose Mourinho will need time to get things right at Stamford Bridge, but believes that there is plenty for Blues fans to be excited about this season.
Mourinho has endured criticism in some quarters since returning to West London, after losing three successive matches in all competitions.
Lampard thinks that Mourinho's winning mentality will get the best out of a mix of youth and experience at the club, with their best displays yet to come.
He told The Mirror: "It can take two to three months, maybe longer, for players to follow a new manager's ideas. If you look at us in the league, we're in a good position.
"I really believe in the squad we have, the young players we have, and we have to take on board the new manager's ideas. But I know he's a winner. He's shown that not just at Chelsea.
"We need to bring that all together. It might be a matter of time in certain areas, but we believe we can do big things. But it's no good talking about it. We need to do it."
The 35-year-old spoke at a pre-match press conference for Chelsea's Champions League clash with Steaua Bucuresti tonight, after Mourinho decided to leave early following questions about Belgian starlet Kevin de Bruyne.
