Chelsea captain John Terry 'faces the axe for Champions League opener'

John Terry is one of several players who are reportedly facing the axe for Chelsea's Champions League opener.

Chelsea captain John Terry is one of several players who are reportedly facing the axe for the opening match of their Champions League campaign.

The Blues skipper, Branislav Ivanovic, Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa could be dropped for the showdown with Maccabi Tel Aviv, according to The Mirror.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been tipped to hand a debut to summer signing Abdul Baba Rahman at left-back, and trade Costa for Loic Remy up front.

Youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek will reportedly be given a chance in midfield, partnering Cesc Fabregas.

Mourinho is expected to make sweeping changes to the side that lost 3-1 to Everton at the weekend, a result that left the Blues in 17th place in the Premier League table.
