Charlton Athletic have opened up a nine-point advantage at the top of League One with a 1-0 win over Exeter City this afternoon.

The only goal of the game at St James' Park came after the restart, courtesy of winger Danny Green.

Elsewhere, the Addicks' nearest rivals Huddersfield were held to a 1-1 draw at Tranmere Rovers. The Terriers looked to be heading for all three points when Jordan Rhodes met them in front, only for Adam McGurk to level up proceedings.

Gary Alexander struck a hat-trick as Brentford defeated Wycombe Wanderers 5-2 at Griffin Park, while Hartlepool recorded a 4-0 home victory over Carlisle United.

New Rochdale manager John Coleman got off to a winning start with a 3-0 win over Bury, thanks largely to a brace from Ashley Grimes.

Yeovil moved out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over Preston North End, who were forced to play 87 minutes with ten men following Craig Morgan's dismissal.

League One scores: Brentford 5-2 Wycombe, Exeter 0-1 Charlton, Hartlepool 4-0 Carlisle, Leyton Orient 0-1 Colchester, Rochdale 3-0 Bury, Tranmere 1-1 Huddersfield, Yeovil 2-1 Preston.
