Celtic handed Efe Ambrose boost for Champions League qualifier

Celtic manager Ronny Deila reveals that Efe Ambrose is available for selection in the Champions League tomorrow despite his red card in the first leg of the last round.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila has revealed that defender Efe Ambrose is available for selection for his side's Champions League playoff first leg against Maribor tomorrow night.

The Bhoys had initially presumed that they would be without Ambrose after he was sent off during the first leg of their controversial qualifier against Legia Warsaw.

The Nigerian sat out the second leg, but questions were raised over whether he would be forced to miss another match after the game at Murrayfield was forfeited due to Legia fielding an ineligible player.

However, it has now been confirmed that Ambrose will be allowed to play in tomorrow's first leg and will join the team on the day of the game.

"He didn't travel today, he is coming tomorrow morning," Deila told reporters.

"In the beginning there were some communication problems, if he was ready or not, we didn't think he was ready because he got two matches but in the end it was one match.

"So he is coming now and I am very happy because we need defenders."

As a result of the forfeited match, Celtic remain in the Champions League despite losing 6-1 on aggregate to Legia Warsaw in the last round.
