Celta Vigo boss Eduardo Berizzo proud despite defeat to Real Madrid

Celta Vigo head coach Eduardo Berizzo says that he is proud of his side despite suffering a 3-1 home defeat to Real Madrid.

Celta Vigo head coach Eduardo Berizzo has said that he is proud of his side despite suffering a 3-1 home defeat to Real Madrid.

The visitors replaced Celta at the top of La Liga thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Danilo and Marcelo, but Berizzo says that a superb performance from Real goalkeeper Keylor Navas was the reason for defeat.

"We let two goals in for two lapses in concentration," he told reporters after the game. "A few things happened in the game which obliged us to react.

"We were two goals down and had to respond; we had a player send off and had to respond... The overall sensation I have is one of pride; we had a great side like Real Madrid on the back foot when we were a man down and we went in search of an equaliser.

"Their goalkeeper denied us in several clear chances on goal. I don't know if it's a fair result or not, for the efforts we made in trying to turn around a game which was ebbing away from us.

"His performance prevented us from scoring four or five goals, he didn't make any mistakes, he blocked shots which were heading in and allowed his team to win the match."

Celta are next in La Liga action against a struggling Real Sociedad next Saturday.
