Aron Gunnarsson pens new Cardiff City deal

Cardiff City announce that midfielder Aron Gunnarsson has penned a new one-year contract with the Bluebirds.

Cardiff City have announced that Aron Gunnarsson has penned a new one-year contract.

Gunnarsson has spent the last seven years with the Bluebirds and made 20 appearances in the Championship last season, but the Iceland international's contract expired at the end of June.

However, Gunnarsson and Cardiff have now reached an agreement over a fresh deal, and the midfielder is pleased to have committed to the Welsh outfit for another 12 months.

The 29-year-old told the club's official website: "It's taken a little while, but it's definitely been worth the wait. I always wanted to stay and I told the gaffer that. Even though I didn't say much in the news, I just wanted to do my job on the pitch.

"It was tough work to get back, ready to represent my country at the World Cup, and for Cardiff City. Now, signing this deal has been my number one priority and I can't wait to meet back up with the boys."

Gunnarsson featured on 23 occasions when Cardiff were last competing in the Premier League during 2013-14.
