Cardiff City's Gary Medel expects to be sidelined for "several weeks"

Gary Medel says that he expects to be out of action for "several weeks" after suffering a muscle tear during Cardiff's defeat to Wigan in the FA Cup.

Cardiff City midfielder Gary Medel has revealed that he expects to be out of action for "several weeks" after suffering a muscle tear over the weekend.

The 26-year-old was forced off the field midway through the Bluebirds' 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday.

After undergoing a scan, Medel posted a photograph on Instagram with a message saying: "Well, this is football. A muscle tear that means staying out for several weeks. I hope to recover as quickly as possible."

Medel moved to the Cardiff City Stadium for a club-record fee of £11m last summer.
