Malky Mackay reveals offer to join Newcastle United management

Malky Mackay reveals that he turned down an offer to become Alan Pardew's assistant manager at Newcastle United.

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay has revealed that he was offered the job to be Alan Pardew's assistant manager at Newcastle United.

The 41-year-old, who was the manager of Watford at the time, decided against taking the role in favour of a move to Cardiff in 2011.

"We had a conversation about me going up there as his number two, but it didn't happen," BBC Sport quotes Mackay as saying.

The Scotsman's team will welcome Newcastle to the Cardiff City Stadium this weekend in the Premier League.
