Burnley manager Sean Dyche says that football should refrain from becoming too "Barcelona-esque".

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has claimed that it is important for football not to become too "Barcelona-esque".

The 46-year-old made the comment while defending Andy Carroll's style of play, despite the West Ham United striker getting sent off at Turf Moor at the weekend.

The player was handed a second yellow card in two minutes for initially catching Burnley's James Tarkowski with an elbow and then whacking Ben Mee with his arm during Saturday's 1-1 draw.

"We've got to be careful we're not going too clean about the game and it [becomes] too perfect - where everyone wants it too Barcelona-esque," Dyche told talkSPORT. "I think there still is good value in different ways of playing and how different players operate."

Burnley currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, two points adrift of top four.
