Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen returned to action today, playing for one hour in a behind-closed-doors friendly for Brentford against Southend United.

Christian Eriksen has made his return to football today during a friendly for Brentford.

The Bees faced Southend United in a behind-closed-doors fixture, and the creative midfielder was able to play for an hour, in what is one of at least two games he will be playing in order to get back to match fitness.

Eriksen joined the Premier League outfit until the end of the season during the January transfer window after Inter Milan ended his contract as he was unable to play in Serie A due to rules stopping players with an ICD from playing.

The 30-year-old has not played in a competitive match since Euro 2020 against Finland where he suffered a cardiac arrest, which many deemed to be career-ending at the time.

It is unclear when the former Tottenham Hotspur star will be able brought into Thomas Frank's first-team squad, with their next match being against Arsenal on Saturday.

The upcoming game is expected to come too soon for Eriksen in order to feature him, with the 26 February fixture against Newcastle United being more likely.
