Report: Marcelo stays with Brazil squad following death of grandfather

A report claims that Marcelo will stay with the Brazil national squad despite news that his grandfather has passed away.

Brazil defender Marcelo has reportedly opted to stay with his team for the remainder of the World Cup despite news that his grandfather has passed away.

A report in Spanish publication Marca claims that the 26-year-old was given permission by manager Luiz Felipe Scolari to leave the squad, attend the funeral and take some time away, but Marcelo has decided to stay in Selecao's Teresopolis base.

Marcelo's grandfather, Pedro Vieira da Silva Filho, is said to have played a big part in the Real Madrid player's upbringing, including getting him involved in football as a child.

Brazil take on Germany in the semi-finals of the World Cup on Tuesday night.
