Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe concedes that his side "are still in a relegation battle" after suffering a 4-1 defeat away at Huddersfield Town.

Eddie Howe has issued an apology to Bournemouth's travelling supporters following Sunday's 4-1 defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Town.

The away fans - the majority of whom began their trek north in the early hours of the morning - watched on as their side crumbled at the John Smith's Stadium.

Junior Stanislas cancelled out Alex Pritchard's opener with 13 minutes on the clock, but Steve Mounie soon restored the hosts' lead and two more goals arrived in the second half.

Bournemouth boss Howe could not offer up any excuses after the match, admitting that his side are very much still embroiled in a relegation scrap.

"I apologise to [our supporters] for the performance," he told Sky Sports News. "There's not much else I can say. When you're aware of the financial and time sacrifices that people make, you want to reward them with an inspiring performance, one that they can go away and talk about for many years.

"I don't think that will be happening after that. I knew that Huddersfield would have wanted to get the crowd involved in the game today very early. Unfortunately for us, we allowed that to happen by conceding early. We fought back very well, but after that, we just faded away. It wasn't great from us. We had no control.

"I said it after the win against Stoke last week. For me, we're still in a relegation battle. There's many clubs involved, it's very tight, and results like this don't help us, especially when you're playing the teams in and around you it's very important that you don't lose. But today, yeah, we didn't produce a good performance at all."

Bournemouth are 10th in the Premier League table but just five points above the relegation zone.
