Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 Hoffenheim

Borussia Monchengladbach make their home advantage count in their opening game of the new Bundesliga season as they win 2-1 against Hoffenheim.

Borussia Monchengladbach made their home advantage count in their opening game of the new Bundesliga season, winning 2-1 against Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Monchengladbach made a strong start at the Borussia Park, with Granit Xhaka coming close to putting them ahead after just nine minutes with a close-range header.

The home side eventually went 1-0 up in the 33rd minute when Mike Hanke headed home Juan Arango's delivery from close range.

Hoffenheim could have restored parity minutes later had Roberto Firmino's shot from the left side of the penalty box not been saved by Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

It was Firmano who netted Hoffenheim's equaliser in the second half, when he found the target from close range in the 66th minute.

However, Monchengladbach took the lead once again on 79 minutes through Arango and held on for a 2-1 win.
