Borussia Dortmund sign Manuel Friedrich

Borussia Dortmund sign centre-back Manuel Friedrich on a free transfer on a contract that runs until next summer.

Borussia Dortmund have signed defender Manuel Friedrich on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old centre-back has been recruited as emergency defensive cover following injuries to Mats Hummels, Marcel Schmelzer and Neven Subotic.

Friedrich has been signed on a contract that runs until the end of the season and will be available for selection for Dortmund's Bundesliga clash against Bayern Munich at home on Saturday.

The former Germany international had been without a club since leaving Bayer Leverkusen at the end of last season and had been on trial at BVB since last week.

Jurgen Klopp's Dortmund are currently four points behind Bayern in second place in the Bundesliga.
