Kevin Davies "concerned" for former side Bolton Wanderers

Kevin Davies claims that Bolton Wanderers are no longer the club they used to be due to their financial strife since Premier League relegation in 2012.

Kevin Davies has admitted that he is worried about the future of former side Bolton Wanderers, claiming that the club has "lost its soul" in recent years.

The Trotters have endured financial difficulties since dropping out of the Premier League in 2012, and currently find themselves at the foot of the Championship table.

It is a far cry from Davies's decade at the club, in which Wanderers reached an FA Cup semi-final, League Cup final, contested European football and also enjoyed a sixth-placed finish in the top flight.

Good news appears to be on the horizon for Bolton supporters, however, as Trevor Birch has been brought in to help finalise takeover talks which are now reaching a conclusion.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Davies said: "It's gone away from the club it used to be. I've been concerned for a while. From when I was there it's gone a bit sterile, the fans don't feel part of the club any more and it's just lost its soul."

Bolton, who are currently four points adrift of safety, return to action next Monday when they take on Brentford.
